This module enables students to become familiar with networks and their operation. Students need to understand the fundamentals of IT networks (LAN, WAN etc.) and network operating systems. They need to identify the purpose and components of a network, design and management of a network.
Students can create a design for a simple network,e.g. a small home network. Students should be able to produce a system which has all the relevant items connected in a meaningful way, and should demonstrate that they have made an attempt to show how the system could connect to the internet.
Students add an index to their design which describes each component of their network and its function.
In addition to the pass criteria, students can list two or three management tasks for their network, with explanations of why they are important.
Students can describe some security measures that would be appropriate to implement for their network.
At the end of this course, student will take the ICT Starters Assessment of On Track Stage 2 Module 3 : Networks for a Purpose.
Cambridge Certification is available at TWO stages.
